Meet the Year 7 Student Progress Tutors

Here you can find more information about your Student Progress Tutor (SPT).

Your Student Progress Tutor will meet with you each morning, when you will register as a form group. They are a little bit like your ‘school parent’ and are your first point of contact in school.  They will check on your well-being and academic progress.

Miss Wild

My name is Miss Wild, and I will be teaching Biology in the Science Department.

I love dancing, baking and going to the theatre. I am enthusiastic to begin the new academic year and I look forward to getting to know you all as you start your journey through NHGS.

Mrs Polllard

Hello, my name is Mrs Pollard and I teach Maths. I really enjoy doing maths and hope that you will too.

I was a student myself at NHGS so I know how strange it feels starting somewhere new, but I also know that this school is a very welcoming school which I am sure you will thrive in.

I like spending time with my family and watching cricket at the weekend. I am very much looking forward to meeting you in September and would like you to know that I am here for you throughout your time at NHGS, whatever it is you may need.

See you soon.

7.3 - this form group has two SPTs who share the role.

Ms Harrison

I am a Spanish and French teacher and I love languages and travelling.  This will be my eleventh year in teaching and I have been a part of the NHGS family for the past eight years (goodness me, I hadn’t realised it’s been so long!)

Out of school, I enjoy reading, crafting and exploring the beautiful outdoors.  I also like buying stationery and seem to have started a collection of items following two themes: one is an animal whose name in Spanish and French translates as lazy; the other is something otherwise known by the word matryoshka …

I am very much looking forward to being a part of your NHGS journey from September - especially if you promise to keep my classroom tidy!

Mr Eccles

I am a French and Spanish teacher and I love working here at the best school in Calderdale. This will be my 20th year in teaching and I have been here in darkest Pennine country three years. When I started here I had dark hair, was 6 feet tall and could see you all without glasses; now I have salt and pepper hair, have shrunk to 5ft 11 and need an extra pair of eyes to mark your work.

In my spare time I love to wind up my gorgeous teenage children, drink too much coffee and ride my very fancy bicycle. My greatest achievement is without a doubt passing my Chemistry O Level (GCSE to anyone under 50).

I hope you all have a great few years here at NHGS and I look forward very much to meeting you and finding out whether or not you like cold custard. If you do, we've got a problem right away. Take care.

Miss Millar

My name is Miss Millar and I am a French and Spanish teacher in the MFL department.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading a variety of books from around the world and going into the countryside with my family. I also enjoy arts and crafts, baking and watching a good film.

I'm looking forward to meeting my new form and welcoming them to NHGS.

7.5 - this form group has two SPTs who share the role.

Mr Kazmi

I am a Science teacher at NHGS. In my spare time, I enjoy running, reading and I hope to solve rubik's cube one day.

As a form tutor of 7.5, I am very much looking forward to welcoming you in September and we would hope that you are excited too.

If you are a little nervous don't worry - that is perfectly normal!

As your form tutor, I will do my very best to ensure that you are supported in your transition to secondary school and therefore make excellent progress in both your learning and in your behaviour during your time in NHGS.

Dr Ashley

Hi everyone, I teach Chemistry and I have just returned from maternity leave to this very unusual situation.  My spare time at the moment is mainly spent looking after my family, I have three small boys and two dogs so we're pretty busy!  I enjoy reading, making things and walking with my dogs and children.

Things will perhaps be a bit different this year but I know that everyone will do their best to help you feel comfortable and settle in. Lydia and Eleanor, your form prefects are very friendly and kind and I know that they're really looking forward to getting to know you. As we all are!  We know that you might be feeling a bit apprehensive but we want to reassure you that your health and well-being will always be a priority to us.  We are here to help you get the most out of your education, and be the best that you can be!  We know you are going to really enjoy your time at NHGS and we can't wait to meet you!

Mr Riley

I teach Mathematics and PE.

My main hobbies are rugby and football but I enjoy most sports! I also enjoy reading and watching films. I love the Harry Potter movies and books. Congratulations on achieving a place at North Halifax Grammar School. I look forward to welcoming you and helping you however I can to continue you on your journey. I am sure you will make friends for life and I can't wait for you all to get started!
