Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

Overview:

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) additional qualification is a Level 3 independent research project equivalent to half an A-level (worth up to 28 UCAS points) that allows students to carry out their own research project in the area of their choice.

It gives students an opportunity to pursue their own study interests beyond the constraints of their A-Level subjects. Submitting a project for the EPQ will help you to develop research and writing skills and will give you an advantage when it comes to undergraduate study at uiversity. Many universities make an lower offer to students undertaking an EPQ. 

Such research is aimed at developing skills which be be transferred throughout many subjects. It also demonstrates to universities and employers your ability to think independently.

Course Structure and Content:

The EPQ comprises:

  • 30 hours of taught skills lessons
  • 90 hours of independent work
  • Course duration: 12 weeks
  • Year 12/13: completed in Year 13
