Overview

For A-level Physics we follow the OCR Physics A specification.  In year 12 we cover the first half of the syllabus whilst also carry out practical work towards the practical endorsement.

OCR - A Level Physics A

Course Content

Autumn Term

  • Forces and motion, work energy and power

Spring Term

  • Materials, law of motion, momentum, waves and electricity

Summer Term

  • Finish electricity, quantum and particle physics

Homework

Set at least weekly.  Usually in the form of problems, online quizzes or exam style questions.  Independent work is also a vital part of studying A-level Physics.  It is expected that students will spend time consolidating work done in lessons and reading around the subject to support the development of their understanding.

Assessment

End of topic tests are carried out; practical work is assessed throughout the course by the teacher.  There will be an end of year internal exam equivalent to an AS exam. Midway through the year there is a mock exam.

Formative assessment is used regularly both within lessons and over a series of lessons including use of mini whiteboards, self, peer and teacher marking, use of online packages and diagnostic multiple choice questions.

Useful Links and Information

Pupils are encouraged to seek help and advice from their Physics teachers at school outside of lessons.

Kerboodle includes a digital version of the textbook used in school, as well as a wide variety of extra resources to support learning, some of them interactive.

The rest of the resources offer information to help understand concepts and carry out active revision such as mind map making and self-quizzing.
