Katie is one of our Y13 students applying to study Languages at University. Throughout her time at NHGS sixth form she has had opportunities to develop her language and leadership skills. All of Y12s undertake work experience, and for Katie this was an opportunity to volunteer her services at the Vauban Mountain Trail - where she even featured in their local newspaper.
“ For my Year 12 work experience I had the opportunity to stay with a French family in the Alps, whilst volunteering at a world cup mountain running race. This was an amazing opportunity to improve my French and experience French culture, as well as increasing my independence and confidence.
I have also helped to organise languages club at NHGS with two friends, and I also ran GCSE help sessions which also helped me to grow more confident through helping younger students.
All of these have helped my communication skills and confidence, especially when engaging with strangers who spoke little english. My leadership skills were enhanced whilst organising the languages club.
I have also volunteered at The Good Shepherd Centre in Keighley, for my term time enrichment, helping with english lessons for Eastern European immigrants which introduced to me the importance of languages in so many peoples lives especially when starting a new life in a foreign country.
The range of opportunities available, especially for enrichment, have really helped to build me an amazing array of experiences for my CV and personal statement, as well as complimenting my A-level subjects - and being really fun as well.”
