Head of Faculty - Maths

Mrs Finnett joined NHGS 15 years ago after a previous career as an IT Consultant and Process Analyst. Mrs Finnett was the Head of Year for Year 8 & 9 at the start of her teaching career and was instrumental in assisting the Head of Lower School with improving the forming process both for new intakes of Year 7 and the re-forming in Year 9. She then moved away from working with the pastoral team, taking on Deputy Head of Department for Maths role. A few years later she secured the Head of Maths post before her current role as the Head of Faculty for Maths and Computer Science.

Mrs Finnett has taught Maths to all Year Groups, but now is primarlily focused on teaching A-Level courses, including Further Mathematics to both Year 12 and Year 13. She was instrumental in the introduction of the new Extended Maths Qualification for Y11 - that prepares Year 11 students for A-level alongside the introduction of Core Maths for Year 12 students studying Psychology, Business Studies, Geography and Biology.

Mrs Finnett has championed her students successfully participating in many Maths competitions, including UKMT (with NHGS hosting the regional Y8 competition for the last two years). She also encourages all KS5 students to take on supra-curricula actiivites to extend their horizons and encourage them to continue to study STEM subjects after sixth form.

Mrs Finnett has taken part in many school trips, including the Year 7 residential trips and the Year 8 Trip to the Holocaust Museum, and has made frequent contributions to Year 9 camp. 

Mrs Finnett is also an active participant in both the Calderdale Heads of Maths and the Northern Grammar School Alliance Heads of Maths groups and attends their meetings every year, bringing back insights and best practice for the department.
