Learning Resources and ICT:
The main study areas for Sixth Form students during study periods are around the Learning Resources Centre (LRC) and the Sixth Form landing area, adjacent to the Sixth Form Common Room. The LRC has recently been enlarged, improved and re-equipped, and the quiet study areas are equipped with reference materials of all types, including books, audio facilities, video equipment, computers and CD-ROM discs of various kinds.
A
specific area is set aside in the LRC solely for the use of the Sixth
Form. The school’s Careers Library is also part of the LRC. Sixth Form
students can use Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
equipment in the LRC such as laptop computers and in the ICT rooms.
It is based on PC computer systems equipped with software for all major
applications. The school is networked, and the LRC and ICT rooms have
access to the internet. Students are also able to study off site when
they are not in lessons.
During
2007-2008 a new Sixth Form Learning Centre will be built
connected to the existing Sixth Form Common Room. The first stage
of this, which will be completed for September 2008, will consist of
five
large Sixth Form teaching rooms on the fi rst fl oor. The ground floor
will
be developed as a second stage.
