The Enigma Project - On Friday 3 October a man from Cambridge University came into school to teach Year 7 students about code breaking (cryptology), he even brought a real Enigma machine! It was a fun activity and the group who cracked the most codes won a virtual enigma machine on the computer which sounds really good. - Jamie 7(4)
Happy Puzzle Day - When we filed into the classroom at 8.50am, we were met by a whole host of colourful and intriguing objects. Some of the puzzles included spinning discs, interlocking metal rings and penguins on icebergs(?!) It was great fun! Overall, the puzzles were a big success and it was a great practice for teamwork. NSPCC Number Day - Members of staff participated by becoming a number for the day and there was a fantastic response from lower school students who paid 50p to answer a very different looking quiz. Who would have thought that Mrs Ablewhite + Mr Langhorn x Miss Alison would equal Mr Wilson! - Mrs Ablewhite
National Cipher Challenge - The National Cipher Challenge is run every year by the Maths Department at Southampton University. It always consists of 16 codes and ciphers to crack; each one revealing something about that year’s theme. - Patrick Wild 8(1)
University of Leeds Maths Challenge- Earlier this year students in Mrs Ward’s Year 8 and Year 10 classes entered the Maths Challenge competition run by the University of Leeds. There were over 900 entries so all the prize winners from NHGS did extremely well to achieve success. Let’s hope we can repeat this success next year! - Mrs Ward
World Maths Day - Overall the day was a great success because we managed to break the World Record of 182,445,169 sums solved in that day. The total correct answers were 452,682,682. - Emily & Rachel 9(1)
UKMT - On Tuesday 5 th May four Year 8 students went to York for the UKMT. Overall we came twelfth out of thirty one teams. - Jade 8(3)
NRICH Roadshow - On Thursday 26 th February the Nrich Maths Roadshow came to NHGS! Overall we came out feeling like our brains had had a good workout. - Dot 9(1)
