Science Enrichment Activities

We have enrichment activities in Science and Mathematics. Here are some of the activites that take place in Science.

Forensic Science DayIn November Year 7 have a Forensic Science Day where they investigate a murder, using forensic techniques to determine the identity of the killer. This is a very realistic experience which always goes down very well with the students.

Dr Alexander Martynov

In March we welcomed Dr Alexander Martynov, Head of Balistics at the Russian Space Centre for our latest talk to parents, students and friends of NHGS. We are looking forward to more talks in 2009/10 which will be advertised nearer the time.

In April we look forward to welcoming Andy Green back to NHGS with his “Stardome” mobile planetarium. He will do presentations to Year 10, Year 12 and our partner primary schools. See http://www.stardome-planetarium.com/ for more details.

Sustainability PledgesIn June we run Sustainability Day for Year 7 and 8 students. The year 7 students learn about recycling and make some paper. They also work on the design of wind turbines and make a green pledge at the end of the day.

In July we take the Year 7 students to Ogden Water for their Ecology fieldwork experience. This is an excellent venue and with 4 different activities it is always an excellent trip.
