The school maintains a very high attendance record which was judged to be excellent in the last OFSTED inspection. The rates of absence in 2006 - 2007 were:

Number of students on roll in Years 7 to 11 777
Attendance 96.6%
Authorised absence 3.4%
Unauthorised absence 0%*

* Too small to measure statistically.

We try to encourage students to maximise their attendance at school. Parents are asked to contact the school if students are ill. Unauthorised absences are quickly dealt with and any persistent problems are resolved, if necessary, in partnership with parents and the Education Welfare Officer.

The school works with parents to ensure that children attend school regularly. Parents are requested to avoid taking students on holiday during school session times. Parents should not expect the school’s agreement unless there is a very good reason. All requests are considered individually, taking account of the age of the student, the time of year, the nature of the request, attendance record of the student and their stage of education and progress.
