Calderdale Schools Sports Association

Athletics Section

A reoganisation of the athletic competitions has been undertaken for the 2001 season. It is assumed that all eligible schools will wish to compete, take on board the following responsibilities and help with the smooth and efficient running of the competitions.

St. Catherine's Shot
Holy Trinity and Rastrick Long
Rishworth and Todmorden High
North Halifax Javelin
Ridings Recorder
Sowerby Bridge Triple
Ryburn Starter
Hipp + Light Announcer
Calder Marshalls
Hipp GS and Brighouse Discus
Cross Heath and South Halifax Track Judges
Brooksbank and William Henry Smith Timekeepers

Schools are asked to provide all equipment - other than actual throwing implements - that will be required for the running of their event. For example pens/Pencils, clipboards, stopwatches, tape measures and results/recording sheets. Find enclosed in your envelope a copy of all relevent sheets and information appertaining to the organisation of the Championships. Much of the information is surplus to requirements but could be of use to you in the future.
Some events are being organised by two schools and it is assumed they will make contact with each other and make appropriate arrangements before the actual event.
Staff should be familiar with the rules, recording and measuring methods of their event and the correct weight used by each age group.

There is no javelin or discus for Y7 pupils.

The hurdles event have been cancelled due to the large amount of organisation that is required. The poor quality of hurdling that has been produced over the years raises the issue of health ans safety and with a recent trend for insurence claims against injury and liability it is felt that we should avoid a potentially difficult situation.

Entries for the W.Y.Championships - including hurdles Pb's -should be completed and handed to Andrew Smith before the selection meeting which will take place after the Part One Championships at 7.30pm in the Brown Cow Puplic house, Highroad Well. All members of staff are welcome.

Failure of stafff to complete entry forms correctly will result in pupils not being selected. Please ensure that all information is printed and legible.

Volenteers to help with the manegement of the Calderdale team should make themselves known to Messrs. Langhorn and Smith.

It is anticipated that the results form the Part I+II will be posted this year with the intension of using the website in the future.
