Academy Status
Following the announcement by the Secretary of State for Education on November 17 th that schools that were judged ‘good with outstanding features’ were eligible to apply to convert to academy status the Full Governing Body took the decision at its meeting on November 24 th to register an interest with the Department for Education. It is important to make clear that this does not mean that the school is committed to becoming an academy. The Governors once we have a named contact at the Department for Education will undertake full consultation with staff, representative groups, students, parents and other interested parties so all the options can be explored. As a start we have created a section on the school’s website at http://www.nhgs.co.uk/academy which has relevant information about academies and academy status which is provided by the Department for Education.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Careers Convention
Thirty students from The North Halifax Grammar school visited the Yorkshire Agricultural Careers Convention in Harrogate on 12th October to look at the range of potential jobs available in the rural economy.
There were a number of exhibits by agricultural and higher educational
colleges highlighting courses of further study in subjects like veterinary
medicine, equine studies and estate management. There were also workshops
that the students participated in such as animal care, dry stone walling,
game keeping, cheese making, garden designing and many more.
The event was an eye opening experience for many and showed the huge numbers of jobs available in the countryside for those students that have an interest in more applied subjects.
