Work
Experience
|
Work
experience will be taking place from Monday 10th November 2008
to Friday 14th November 2008 for all Year
11 students. Initial preparations are currently underway and the
time has now come for your daughter or son to complete a work experience
application form. Information packs have already been sent home.
Please ensure that all relevant sections of the application form
are filled in and that the completed form is signed by a parent/guardian and
returned to either Mrs Bull or Mrs Garnett in the school office
no later than Friday 9th May 2008.
The placement is intended to help your child develop a greater
appreciation of employment issues and the world of work, whilst
at the same time providing an opportunity to build self confidence
and take personal responsibility for their actions.
Should
you wish to discuss anything, please call Mrs Bull (Work Experience
Manager) at school on 01422 231421. Please visit http://www.nhgs.co.uk/workexperience to download application forms, letters and other information.

| Happy
Puzzle Day |
|
On
Monday 28th January the Happy Puzzle Company came into school. Each Year 8 form was paired
with another for 3 periods of puzzle solving.
When
everyone was settled, the man from the Happy Puzzle
Company started by asking a few word puzzle questions. Some
students already knew the answers but that didn’t really
matter.
After
the word puzzles, we started to do physical puzzles
in groups of 6. These puzzles ranged from putting penguins
on icebergs to jigsaws. We all had a lot of fun as it involved
a lot of teamwork and everyone played an important part. It
was a great couple of hours and we all learnt a lot about puzzles
and teamwork.

ICT
Acceptable Use Policy (http://vle.nhgs.co.uk/aup)
|
The
Internet and associated computer technologies bring a wealth
of opportunities for everyone. These technologies can stimulate
discussion, promote creativity and stimulate awareness of context
to promote effective learning. However, these technologies are
to be used in an appropriate manner. The school has a responsiblity
to ensure that all students and staff use these technologies
responsibly. Therefore, we have made changes to the Acceptable
Use Policy (AUP). The new policy takes into consideration new
and emerging technologies such as social networking and video
sharing websites as well as the Virtual Learning Environment
(VLE).
You will need to read the policy and agree to the policy. You
can do this by going to: http://vle.nhgs.co.uk/aup - Please login
using the username and password supplied in your letter and type
the words 'I Agree' into the box, you will then need to fill in
a short form and send it to school. You will need Adobe PDF Reader,
which you can get from Adobe.com, we thank you for your support.

The
Sixth Form Learning Centre (SFLC)
|
As
announced in the July newsletter, the school has the go-ahead
for the construction of a new five-classroom SFLC.
We expect the project to be complete by June 2008 ready for use in September
2008. The school has to raise £40,000 and so far with donations from the
Parents’ Association and direct donations from parents, we have raised £13,000.
our first major fund-raising scheme is to invite parents to donate items that
can be sold on E-Bay. We intend to target parents of students in different year
groups in fortnightly intervals through the year.
