Introduction | Step By Step | CVs | Letters | Interviews | Employers | Contacts | Links
Curriculum Vitae (CV) is a summary of your life to date that highlights the aspects that would be of interest to a prospective employer. It should include personal details as well as education, training and qualifications gained in school and out of school. It should also include any work experience, career history, interests and hobbies plus the names of two people who can be approached for references.
Writing a CV is an important task that requires time and effort. It is used as part of the selection/elimination process by recruiters seeking to fill job vacancies and college/university places. It should be, at most, two pages and aim to sell the person described to the recruiter in less than 30 seconds – that’s probably all the time it will be given. The presentation style is up to the individual but it should aim to be simple but effective. Remember you will always be competing with a number of other people.
Here you can see two versions of one persons CV. Have a look at both versions, which do you prefer and which do you think would be most appealing to a prospective employer?

You do not have to copy the style of this CV, as stated previously; the presentation style is up to the individual but if you want a bit more help take a look at the following website (opens in a new window):
