Living to Learn Learning to Live: About NHGS
NHGS was established on its present site in 1985. It became a Foundation School in 1999. The school became a Specialist Science School in 2004 and following its successful inspection in December 2007 it has been re-designated for a further three years. It has also been designated as a High Performing Specialist School and from April 2009 has Languages as a further specialist focus. The school has also been nominated by the DCSF as Calderdale’s lead centre for Gifted and Talented (G&T) Education from 2009. We continue to offer all the National Curriculum subjects with an expanding range of options in the 14-19 phase that reflects the school’s specialisms and its wider commitment to the arts. The school was awarded the Artsmark in 2009 for the third time in recognition of the opportunities for art, dance, drama and music in the school.
The school’s success is attributable to a very hard working and well-qualified staff (the school has maintained Investors in People accreditation since 1995); a committed and informed governing body; happy and high achieving students; positive and supportive parents.
NHGS is also well connected to most parts of Calderdale as it is served by eleven yellow buses which provide safe, convenient and reliable transport directly to the school.
