BRIGHT SPARKS SUMMER SCHOOL
'Bright Sparks' is two-week summer school, developed by Calderdale LEA as part of a government initiative, to extend the brightest students within the Calderdale area.

All schools in Calderdale (including independent schools) were asked to nominate 3 students who were working at level 5 in their studies. The 34 students came to NHGS, the host school, for a comprehensive 2-week programme in which they learned skills in:

digital camera imaging;

data collection;

• web page layout, editing & site design.

Use the Bright Sparks link, left, to see their website. (Please note that the pages that follow are not part of the NHGS website and will open in a new window.)

The 'Gifted and Talented' courses offered students real-world projects in which they worked to a tight brief and timescale. Examples include making a working radio and designing the case: these were exhibited at Magna.

Students produced, directed and performed 2 plays (Romeo and Juliet and Coyote Girl) made visits (Jerusalem Farm and Magna) which embraced Science, numeracy, literacy and Geography.
