It would be helpful if you have studied Art and/or Graphics at GCSE level although this is not a requirement. Many other subjects go well with Art and Graphic Design, from Humanities such as Media Studies, to languages or Science. With a qualification in either Art or Graphic Deisgn you could go on to higher education, Art foundation or work in the Art/Design industry. For both AS and A2, you may either choose to follow a broad course, or to specialise in one of the following Areas of Study: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textiles and Critical and Contextual studies.
COURSE CONTENT
Research Projects - Produce 2 assignments, either from 2 different areas of study if you are following the broad course, or from your particular area of interest if yours is to be an endorsed course. Each project may be a single, self-contained assignment, or a series, or a set of works complete with sketchbooks or sheets.
Personal Investigation - A broad visual study of an artist or designer which will incorporate the exploration of materials, processes and techniques.
Controled Assignment (5 hours) - A controled research assignment using one question chosen from the list presented by the examining board.
COURSE CONTENT - Units assessed in A2 are:
Specialist Project - This unit gives you the chance to build on the skills and knowledge you developed in the AS units. You will have to produce 1 major assignment along with planning sheets or a sketchbook.
Personal Study - An in depth study of a particular aspect of visual arts which interest you. This could be presented in a number of ways from a structured sequence of drawings/paintings/photographs/3D objects, to a visual and written analysis or a tape/slide/video/multimedia presentation.
Controled Test (15 hours) - For this test you will choose 1 question from a list set by the examining board, and research, prepare and plan for a major project which will be completed under controlled conditions
